On August 17, 2026, Yogesh Sonkesariya, a professor at Bharti Agriculture College in Durg, Chhattisgarh, received a sealed envelope containing the question paper for the second-semester B.Sc. Agriculture Entomology examination at Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (IGKV).
Rather than opening the envelope — which would have broken the tamper-evident seal — he purchased an endoscopy camera for approximately Rs 2,500, inserted a needle to create a pinhole at the base of the envelope, and threaded the camera through the opening. He then connected the camera to his mobile phone and recorded the question paper contents.
He was able to capture 15 questions from the paper, manually transcribed them, and sold the information to students for Rs 11,000 in total. After recording, the pinhole was sealed with glue to maintain the appearance of an intact envelope.
The Raipur Police arrested Sonkesariya and six students after a document circulating on WhatsApp was found to closely match the actual question paper. IGKV cancelled the examination for approximately 1,200 students across 28 affiliated colleges. A re-examination has been scheduled for September 2026.
