This is qualitatively different from a binary outcome ("marks unchanged" or "marks revised") and allows students and parents to assess whether revaluation is likely to be productive before investing in the process.

The NAAC Connection: Criterion 5 and Student Support

For institutional administrators, digital evaluation reform is not only a student welfare choice — it is directly relevant to accreditation outcomes under the NAAC binary and MBGL frameworks.

NAAC Criterion 5 — Student Support and Progression — specifically evaluates whether institutions maintain mechanisms for student grievance redressal, whether student satisfaction data reflects positively on institutional processes, and whether the institution demonstrates structured support for student welfare.

Examination-related grievances constitute the largest category of student complaints at most universities. Revaluation disputes, result delays, totalling errors, and perceived marking unfairness all generate formal grievances that affect Criterion 5 scores. Institutions that have deployed digital evaluation consistently report significant reductions in revaluation request volumes — because fewer errors occur and because students who can see their marking clearly often withdraw revaluation applications once they understand the basis for their marks.

The NAAC binary accreditation framework's AI-driven verification approach means that institutions claiming student welfare improvements must support those claims with documented, verifiable data. Digital evaluation systems generate exactly this kind of data — revaluation request rates, grievance resolution timelines, student satisfaction survey responses on evaluation fairness — in forms that can be compiled directly into AQAR submissions.

The Mental Health Policy Asks for Coordination; Digital Evaluation Is One Mechanism

India's 2026 School Mental Health Policy requires institutions to establish named wellness coordinators, integrate social-emotional learning into subject teaching, and build parent communication protocols. It does not prescribe solutions for the examination system. That is appropriate — the policy operates at the student support level, not the examination design level.

But the policy's goals and digital evaluation reform are directly aligned. The policy aims to reduce the anxiety burden on students. Digital evaluation reduces the uncertainty, opacity, and error rates in the evaluation system that generate a substantial portion of that burden.

Universities implementing digital evaluation are not simply upgrading their examination operations — they are making a student welfare intervention with measurable outcomes. Post-evaluation grievance rates, revaluation request volumes, and student satisfaction scores on result fairness are all metrics that can be tracked before and after a digital evaluation deployment.

For institutions looking to demonstrate concrete progress on student welfare goals — whether to NAAC, to parent communities, or to their own internal review processes — this is a domain where the intervention and the outcome are clearly connected.

What Needs to Happen

Reducing exam anxiety at a national scale requires action at multiple levels. At the policy level, the Ministry of Education's School Mental Health Policy is a necessary starting point. At the board level, CBSE's 2026 rollout of onscreen marking for Class 12 — despite the implementation challenges documented this year — represents a direction of travel that state boards are beginning to follow.

At the institutional level, universities and autonomous colleges retain significant control over their own evaluation processes. For the vast majority of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, how answer sheets are evaluated, how marks are compiled, and how revaluation is managed are decisions made at the institutional level, not by a central board.

Institutions that restructure their evaluation processes to be more transparent, faster, and more reliable are directly reducing the examination anxiety burden on their students. The mechanism that makes examination anxiety structurally lower — not psychologically managed, but actually reduced at the source — is an evaluation system that students can trust.
